Vogue Festival quotes van o.a Mary Katrantzou, schoenontwerper Nicholas Kirkwood, Henry Holland

Op dag twee van het Vogue Festival in Londen is er ruim baan voor jonge Britse modeontwerpers. Mily Sheffield van de Britse Vogue interviewde zojuist de ontwerpers, Holly Fulton, Henry Holland, Roksandra Ilincic, Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou en schoenontwerper Nicholas Kirkwood.

Vraag aan Mary Katrantzou: waarom ze na haar afstuderen meteen haar eigen label begon, terwijl mensen adviseerden om dat vooral niet te doen vanwege de crisis. Waarom luisterde ze niet?
“I was so naive and very ambitious. I didn’t know at every step how more difficult it was going to get. So I just went on. New Gen helped me a lot. I did face a lot of problems on the road. The support of the British Fashion Council was amazing”

Nog een vraag voor Mary Katrantzou: Would you say technology has influenced your designs or vice versa?
“Definitely, when I was studying there was little digital printing. I helped to push the boundaries and pushed technology. I feel constantly challenged by what’s possible. When I graduated there were already advances in digital printing and I hoped to have helped it further.”

Nicholas Kirkwood: What the most impractical thing you’ve been asked to do in name of fashion?
“ I think probably the most unusual I’ve ever made was a thigh-high pair of rollerskaters for a collaboration with Swarovski. We thought Lady Gaga would wear them but for her they were even too unpractical.”

Vraag van ene Eva uit Stockholm aan Henry Holland: Hoe lang ben je ‘s morgen bezig met je haar?
“Four minutes, four steps: the straightening is the embarrassing part.”

Nog een vraag voor Henry Holland:”Do you think there’s a future for catwalkshows?
“I think there’s always a place for fashion show. There’s something quite magical about it. I want to see how they move and behave down the catwalk. I like working with fashion films too because they put the clothes into a scenario, into a context. I think there has to be a place for the two. It’s good to explore ways how to show your work.”

Vraag aan Holly Fulton: wat is het beste advies dat je ooit hebt gekregen?
“Treat people as you like to be treated yourself”
